Fitness Plan - Summer 2009

If I write it down and put it on my blog, do you think it will help? Since I know that about three people read this, there isn't much incentive. But I have to say that I created a tracking-calendar on my computer and it has been very motivating. I like to fill in the date boxes with check-marks for each fitness activity. I started June 1.
I was inspired by Metropolitan Mama's simple list so I used it as my starting point. I was also impressed that the list included "additions" instead of "deletions." I liked that philosophy, so that's what I did too.
Fitness Additions:
100 crunches or Pilates video – 3x/wk
30 curls (5 lb. weights) – 3x/week
Train for a 5K – 3x/week
Family walks or active play
Eat a fruit or vegetable at every meal

Goals:

135 lb. by July 31

Run a 5K

So far, I am seeing some positive results. The scale is trending in the right direction. I am happier with what I see in the mirror. I have been surprised how easy it is to fit in some additional activity. I do curls in the kitchen or run home from the mail box chasing Calvin. And adding fruit to breakfast and lunch seems to be helping me feel more satisfied.

The 5K idea is great, but I just don't know if it's going to happen. I really liked The Couch to 5K Running Plan and attempted to implement it, but getting out of the house for a walk or a run seems impossible on most days.

It occurs to me that this is the answer to a prayer I prayed a few months back. I had given up on understanding what God's message was for me, but I believe that this is part of it.

Thank you Father for answered prayers. Thank you for your Spirit of self-control. Thank you for caring enough to care about my health and my fitness and my body. Thank you for the luxury of being able to worry about such things instead of where I will get food for my babies or if we will survive the month. Apart from you I have nothing!

Hi Donita! It sounds like our fitness plans are really similar. I've been doing my crunches and curls diligently, but runs have been sporadic. As you said, it's tough to get out of the house to run (especially when the weather is HOT).

Fortunately, we have a double jogging stroller so I'm hoping we can put that to good use this fall.

And I'm *considering* trying the Shred. It's a 30-day, 20-minute-a-day DVD program. I've heard really great things about it. I'm typically not a fan of exercise DVDs, but 20 minutes is do-able and 30 days is a short commitment. We'll see...

Best wishes to you!

P.S. Do you have any particular 5Ks in mind? :)
