Back to Normal

I love Christmas. I love the parties and the preparations and the decorations. I love the old traditions and the new traditions. I love the week between Christmas and New Year's. It is the most relaxed week of the year in my household and we get to hang out with family and let the kids ride bikes and go to the park and stay up late. I love that my husband always has to use-or-lose some vacation time so he's off work for a week or two or more.

And I love the first Monday in January when everything goes back to normal. But I'm still waiting!

Unfortunately, this past weekend I got a terrible "flu" and was in bed, feverish, achy, miserable and totally out of commission for over 24 hours. No sooner did I turn the corner than my husband entered the infirmary.

So our Back to Normal week has been: Tyler sick at home for two days (and it's not looking good for tomorrow), me under the weather, lunch and dinner out of a box yesterday and there's still a box of Christmas stuff in my living room. Thursday Calvin is off to Grandma and Grandpa's. So maybe Friday will be our first Back to Normal day. But who am I kidding...you can't have a back to normal day on Friday!

There's always next week! Which, by the way, is the week I have two wisdom teeth removed. When I was pregnant with Calvin someone told me, "After you have the baby, you'll get back to normal, but it will be a new normal." Sound council in my opinion, but I didn't expect to have to apply the New Normal mantra to 2010.

What about you? Are you Back to Normal?
