#57 - Show an item at the County Fair

Thank you for your comments about my 1001 list.  I agree that it is time to put that list aside.  I think I need it to be finished...what is done is done and what is unfinished can stay that way.  If something is important enough, it will appear on another list somewhere.

Never-the-less, there are a few outstanding items that I would like to finish-up...show-off.  Ahhh, the self-indulgance of the blog-world.

Last week I finally submitted my entry form to put something in the County Fair.  Did you know that the book of things you can enter into a fair is called a "Permium Book?"  And there are an insane number of entry options!  I wish I had something really interesting like a sheep or a queen sized quilt or homemade jelly.  Or maybe something I've never even heard of like a Duroc swine, or tole painting or lapidary or tatting.

I settled on two things I sewed and that were Fair-worthy, in my opinion.
Though not technically difficult, I believe my Mama's bag with the birds is well sewn with a lining and blind-stitched handles.  It's also super cute, if I do say so myself.

I'm also going to submit one of these Reading Pillows.  They have been used and loved and jumped-half-to-death.  But I am going to re-iron and re-stuff one of them to put on display.

That's it for this year.  Next year....cavys!

I have a cavy you can start with!! You can have her -- she is sweet although old and her mama was a Grand Champion :-) I am proud of you for entering your sewing. I only wish I could sew like that. Best of luck with your enteries. Beth

I'd think long and hard before you get a cavy (guinea pig). Sue had one for 4-H and although they are fun to learn to show, they leave your house quite stinky and dirty and are very difficult to get rid of. Our wall was stained with cage mess for years where the cage touched the wall. - Wendy

By the way, your sewing entries will do great at the fair! I've entered some cross-stitch, knitting and quilting things over the years and its very fun and they judge quite generously. Its really sad though that as we are becoming so much more populated and urban each year there are so many fewer crafts, cooking, home stuff, etc entered at the fair. A lot of it now is just when schools have entire classes enter things. Very cool that you're doing your first time!!! Wendy
