Garden Party Birthday

My first-born turned 8 this weekend!  How can that be?  It really seems like no time at all.

And here we are 8 years later!  You are amazing and smart as a whip and inquizative about every thing.  You study and look and explore and ask questions.  I love the way you interact with adults as if they should answer you when you ask how much cement is in a cement truck or why the gas company is digging a hole on our street or when he last went elk hunting.

You are a first born, like your mama.  You are strong willed.  And you are tender-hearted.  You are a perfectionist.  Like your mama.

And you have the best laugh and adorable dimples.  You are super strong.  You have a funny sense of humor.  You are amazing!

When you asked for a Ninja themed party I told you No.  Immediately you suggested a Garden Party.  Absolutely yes!  What a wonderful idea.  I wondered then, what does a Garden Party actually mean to a going-to-be-8 year old.  A cake with carrots on top, you replied.  Well that's easy enough.  And a picture of carrots and beans and corn and pumpkins on the walls.  Ok.  And so you set to work drawing the garden you wanted as decoration.  A garden party it is!

In my minds eye, the only thing I wanted for a garden party was a garden banner.

For my part, we started with old jeans, a sheet from the thrift store and then purchased three 1/2 yards of fabric and some bias tape at the craft store.

I followed this tutorial, cut triangles and sewed.

I got my garden party wish.

Plus a little bonus banner action on the chef salad bar table.

Happy birthday to the big 8 year old!

I hope all your wishes come true.

I love you!
