Photo-Documentation

I left the baby's diaper bag at my grandma's house two weeks ago.
No big deal...
Except that my camera was in that bag!!
I feel like half my brain is missing!

I didn't realize how often I reach for the camera.  Considering the fact that I take over 200 pictures a month I should have had a clue, but now I am realizing November has been an un-photographed month! Oh the ways I love my camera.

Apparently I fancy myself a food blogger because I have had the urge to photograph all sorts of culinary works in progress.  I made some beautiful challa bread, glossy and braided, and Calvin even got his hands in the dough too. Every step diserved its own picture. I made marinara and minestrone and zucchini bread. I had piles of beautifully diced carrots, celery, tomatoes and zucchini.  And I even baked my very first spaghetti squash. All those bright veggies really needed to be photographed.

I also might be a wanna-be-crafty-blogger because I wanted to take craft pictures. The boys made a terratium. They made paper banners with seeds and shells and leaves spelling "Give Thanks." And I realized that I like photographing the process just as much as the finished product.

Of course, I would have taken November pictures of the kids. I would have taken a picture of Truman and Calvin laying head to head on the Boppy pillow. And Calvin carrying Truman to me...precarioulsy. And Calvin and Andrew digging holes worthy of Holes in the back yard.

I would have taken a bunch of pictures of Truman, now sitting up like a champ. Reaching far to play with toys and usually returning back upright, hands out wide. And I would have used the video feature to capture the new high pitched happy sounds that he is making.

I would have taken pictures of our school work. Especially "school work" that isn't book work!  When there is no paper for posterity or proof I feel the need to document that we actually did something.  So I reach for the camera when we're gluing alphabet letters on construction paper. Working on Tens and Ones place values with blocks and candy. Making a mess with food coloring and water. Playing cards.

I even would have considered a family picture on Election Night. We were all clean and dressed and together in one place. But in reality, having a family picture taken is like torture for a majority of my family, so I usually let it go.

I am trying to decide if I can wait until Thanksgiving to get my camera.  But the 1 1/2 hour drive is becomming less and less important as I watch more and more moment pass by undocumented.  I guess I shouldn't say undocumented, because here I am documenting them. Just unphotographed!

How would you survive without your camera for 2 weeks? Big deal or no?

Oh, the pressure! My poor little, cracked-screen camera is quaking just thinking about being the only guy responsible for recording OUR VISIT next week! I'll make sure I have plenty of batteries and lots of space for the handsome Vogt boys!!! kmc

Sadly, I'm pretty sure I woudn't even notice if my cameras went missing for 2 weeks. My kids are just going to have to take my word for it that we did some cool stuff every now and then. :(
