Prophetic Calvin

Image
Calvin reading.  Calvin reading for over an hour after I thought he was asleep.  Calvin reading Calivn and Hobbes .  Calvin giggling and belly laughing at Calvin and Hobbes . Tyler always said that if he had a boy he would be just like Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes;  he said the cartoons were prophetic.  And now we have a Calvin who loves Calvin and Hobbes .  Appropriate, don't you think!?

Guess What I Missed This Weekend?

Image
Here's a clue... Yes, big permed hair was in style. Another clue... Fortunately, the big glasses that were also in style had been replaced by contacts a few years prior. And another clue...  You might be able to see the date at the bottom.  The guy was a friend from Track and Field. I don't know what happened to him after graduation.   Yep...this weekend was my 20 year high school reunion. No, I didn't go to the party. Yes, I live in the same town...probably less than 10 miles away from my high school football field. No, I didn't feel any compelling reason to go.  But TWENTY years!!  Seriously? I wish I had something important to say about such a significant milestone.  But all I can think is: How did this happen? I certainly don't feel as old as I must be. How can I possibly have spent more time out of high school than I spent getting to that graduation? CRAZY! Do you go to reunions?  What am I missing?

Baby Smiles...8 weeks today

Image
Guess who's a happy morning baby? In the evening, however, tummy-troubles and sleep-resistance seem to take over...and smiles are harder to find.   But this position is a new favorite.     And this one... And this one! Who doesn't like to be snuggled close? And a little pressure on that baby-belly seems to help too.

Who's Doing the Following?

I have been pondering the difference between these two morning-type prayers: Father, be with me today. vs. Father, whereever You are going today...I want to go too. When I recently heard this second prayer I loved it immediately.  I could sense the subtle, but life-altering difference.  He is already present in my life. He is going somewhere...today.  He is doing something...today. He wants me to abide...to reside...to dwell...to remain...with Him. And, unless I am mistaken, God and I are not getting on an airplane today, nor are we developing a new language for Bible translation.  We are probably not starting a non-profit nor opening a shelter.   At least not today.   But does that mean God has given up on me  today ?  Is God waiting for the day I finally do something important ?   Does He only lead us when greatness is iminent?   Becau...
