First Week of Summer...Check

Image
We finally finished up our school work during the week of Memorial Day.  The boys were so excited to finally be on Summer Break like everyone else.  But at 7:50AM on Monday, June 1 I actually heard the words, "I'm bored."  *Deep Breath*  Fortunately, after that they kids found plenty to occupy their time and we hardly even left the neighborhood.   Our first week of Summer Break ended up gloriously uneventful and I only heard "I'm bored" once or twice a day.  We stayed at home a lot, made lots of messes, and got to know the neighborhood kids better.  We had to buy some walkie-talkies, replace a bicycle pedal, and get a case of Gatorade for the kids.  Here's what we were up to! Legos.  Blankets make clean up ten times easier!  Star Wars Lego building. Riding Bikes with the boys in the neighborhood!  (Not all of them are in the picture!)    What the driveway looks like some da...

Zoo

Image
Andrew was wearing an Elephant shirt on Monday so he inspired us to head to the zoo.  (Which inspired me to put Truman in a Horton elephant shirt too.)  Andrew also wanted to take the wagon, which turned out being a nice treat for us all. It was nice and early before it got too hot.  And it wasn't very crowded.      Truman noticing the otters! The mama lion and one of her cubs...now almost a year old.   Daddy lion is sleeping in the back.  Another cub sunning on the rocks! A cute cub asleep near the food...perhaps that's the male?? This was our first visit to see the elephants in their new habitat.  I thought the habitat was beautiful and the walking paths, displays, interactives and shade trees were all so nice. I haven't learned the names of the new elephant family, but there was a nice display giving information about each one.  They were very active and every time I put my camera away I missed a...

Because It's September in Arizona

Image
September in Southern Arizona is still swimming weather! But it's finally not so hot...the baby won't melt and I won't roast.  So we drove across town to the Splash Park last week! Calvin wasted no time!  Andrew was a little more skeptical. Note how he's holding his shorts so they don't get wet.  I don't know why that strikes me as so funny an adorable. He ventured under the water bucket canopy... and then he got wet...  Fortunately, he finally discovered that he could soak Brother with the water cannons. Everyone's having fun now.

October in Arizona

Image
October 11! When Calvin asked to play on the Slip-and-Slide I had to resist the urge to say, "No, It's October!" or "No, it's not summer!" Because in reality it was still 95 degrees. Which, of course, is Slip-and-Slide weather to any kid. While we're at it, we might as well try to finish that box of Popsicles! How do you celebrate the last Hoo-Rah of summer? I guess if you don't live in Arizona, you might have waived good-bye to summer two months ago!
