Earlier this week three of us gathered to sew for Hope 4 Women 's campaign to Dress A Girl Around The World .  Their vision: Imagine a world where every little girl owned at least one dress. It was a few hours of good sewing fun, some great conversation and a few snacks too.  The pattern utilizes a purchased pillow case and the sewing is very simple.  One dress can easily be compleated in an hour.  And although the three of us are quite proficient sewers, this is a great project for beginners. Kerry worked on two king sized pillow cases with an elegant white-on-tan floral print.  She added white bias tape to finish them off.  On older girl or teen will love to receive these dresses.  They are so beautiful.  Melissa worked on a couple beautiful burgandy and blue dresses.  Truman kept us company and cheered us on! You are invited to Dress a Girl Around the World We'll be sewing pillowcases into dresses Wednesday, August 31 beginning at 1:30pm at my house Send me a note for directions and details The pattern for the dresses are very simple.  You don't need anything other than the most basic sewing skills.  Please bring a sewing machine if you have one.  I'll have at least one exta. You will also need the following supplies: new or gently used pillowcase thread 14-inches of ¼” or ½” elastic 32-36” of doublefold bias tape I'll have: scissors safety pins thread ruler sewing pins My good friend, Michelle made a dress with a group of ladies at a her mom's sewing machine shop. Lots of inspiration!

The boys went to bed. I went to my sewing closet. I sewed a quilt patch for  Quilts of Valor .  In less than two hours. Because I used the Quilt In a Day plan for making this Log Cabin pattern I ended up with extra fabric in each strip of color.  It was easy to make a few extra patches.  I have visions of a small table runner or centerpiece...someday. This is the patch I'll be mailing tomorrow.  There's still time for you to add your patch to Quilts of Valor. I do not listen to sermons by pod cast or on TV or on the radio. But I seem to keep hearing the message to sell all that you have and give to the poor, to give every day, to be radical, to live communally like Acts 2, to live each day as if it is your last, to repent from living at ease in Zion and on and on. Honestly, my heart rebels at many of these notions. Perhaps it is because I just can't wrap my mind around the idea or expectation presented. Perhaps I don't want to. Perhaps it is because I naturally rebel against any church movement of the day...before this it was the men's-movement, preceded by the small group movement, which was preceded by the seeker-friendly mega-church, which was preceded by the introduction of "worship" music which, I am sure, was preceded by some other popular ...
