Vacation Close-Ups

Image
As I mentioned before, my oldest is great at being photographed.  He looks at the camera, he smiles real looking smiles (most of the time).  He's been like that since he was a baby.  The other two do not usually like being photographed, they do not like to look at the camera, they like to run out of the picture frame before I take a picture in order to see the image on the magical side of the digital camera.  They have both been like that since they were babies. So I take what I can get.  And I take a lot of pictures.  Especially on vacation.  And I hope for the best. At a place like LegoLand or the beach, it's easy to fall into the trap of taking lots of far-away pictures.  It's always more interesting to capture scenery with your loved ones, otherwise, you're better off buying postcards, but in the effort to capture the grandness of the ocean or the expance of the sand or the size of a Lego Empire State building it's easy to l...

Summer Recap #1

Image
Our summer has been full of little things.  In fact, I started keeping track of all the "little things" because it felt like we weren't doing anything!  We didnt' take any trips.  We didn't have any company.  We didn't spend a fortune.  We stayed home.  We took little trips around town.  We tried to stay cool. And I downloaded Picasa and learned how to make these cute collages. Here's my first attempt. We borrowed a couple science books from the library, kept a list of interesting ideas on the refrigerator and bookmarked fun science from the internet.  Not to mention simply enjoying the world around us and the crazy nature of Southern Arizona. Most of the kids around here are back to school already or will be later in the week.  We'll start in less than two weeks, so sadly, we are starting to wrap-up summer...and trying to cram in all the stuff we wanted to do.  Stay tuned for more Summer Recaps.

The Goal: Pick Blackberries

Image
At the New Year we had a family dinner and talked about things we might like to do in the coming year.  One of the boys mentioned picking blackberries at Uncle Todd's.  Thus began our long road trip.  So, with the goal in mind I will perhaps try to post a few pictures and thoughts from along the way. Today, I give you blackberries.

Photo-Documentation

I left the baby's diaper bag at my grandma's house two weeks ago.  No big deal... Except that my camera was in that bag!!  I feel like half my brain is missing! I didn't realize how often I reach for the camera.  Considering the fact that I take over 200 pictures a month I should have had a clue, but now I am realizing November has been an un-photographed month! Oh the ways I love my camera. Apparently I fancy myself a food blogger because I have had the urge to photograph all sorts of culinary works in progress.  I made some beautiful challa bread, glossy and braided, and Calvin even got his hands in the dough too. Every step diserved its own picture. I made marinara and  minestrone and zucchini bread. I had piles of beautifully diced carrots, celery, tomatoes and zucchini.  And I even baked my very first  spaghetti squash . All those bright veggies really needed to be ...
