He's a Pro

Calvin went Pro on Wii bowling last week. I don't really know how that happened or what that means except his Mii got a cool new bowling ball.

So we marked the occasion by going "real bowling."

I tried to prepare him on the way to the bowling alley. "In real bowling," I said "it is polite to wait your turn until the people on the lanes next to you are finished." And "The balls are a lot heavier than the Wii controller so you can set the ball down and push it if you want." And "Did you know that you can't wear your tennies when you bowl...we will tell them your size and they will give you special shoes to wear." This last comment generated the most discussion, but in the end we had a great time! And only had to have the lane-attendant help us once.

Are you surprised to learn that real bowling is harder than Wii bowling? (For the 4 year old and for the 36 year old!)

Bowling would have been so much more fun as a child if those bumpers had been invented way back when. And it's a good thing we had them. (For the 4 year old and the 36 year old!)

We only played one game which left Calvin asking for more, but in my experience it is better to quit while wanting more than to quit in tears. In addition, the 1 year old was intent on chasing balls down the lanes and pulling balls off the racks so I was getting tired swinging a 9 pound ball in my right hand while holding a 20 pound babe in the other.

We were too busy rolling balls, slipping in our shoes, eating nachos and chasing Andrew to get very many pictures. I really wish I had a close-up of Calvin in his shoes. Because when we left he said, "Next time I want to play bowling where I can wear my own shoes."
