A Literal Foundation


I was a little misleading in my last post. I did ponder what to put in our foundations and I did miss the first visit of our cement truck. The following day, however, the cement truck returned to pour the porch. I didn't want to let the opportunity totally slip by so I finally gave up my vision of a "perfect" idea, with the perfect wording, printed on elegant paper and gracefully written in calligraphy.

I chose two verses. I hand wrote them on lined notebook paper with a ball point pen. I rolled them into a "scroll" and secured them with Scotch tape. I placed one under each threshhold of two of our three doors. And I'm happy with that.

Ephesians 5: 1-2
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Deuteronomy 6: 4-9
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Awesome choices! I absolutely love them as foundational Words! Sooooo... were they just placed there, and then ooey-gooey cement was poured over and around them, or what? Inquiring minds want to know. -kmc

Rainbow Layer Cake

We saw this Rainbow Checkerboard Cake video several months ago and Calvin was intrigued.  He ended up adding it to our Summer Fun Ideas List and this week we made it happen.  This was not quite a Pinterest Fail, but if you look at the video you will see how far from the original creation our cake actually was.    One cake mix was divided into pink and yellow.  One cake mix we made into blue and green.     Lots of boys.  Lots of help.  Lots of hand washing.    We cut the center out of each one and rearranged the colors.    And stacked them all together.  If we had waited until the cakes were completely cool, or even par-froze the layers they would have stacked more easily without cracking. I am an inexperienced blogger. I write sporadically. I use a free blogging web-site.  I have not done a tutorial. I have not attended a blogger conference.  And I have had at least three reader's comments "lost" recently.  I am so sorry about that!! I do not know why this is happening.  I have double checked all my setting to allow comments. Even anonymous comments but the problem seems to persist.   Today I have made a small change so that the comments section will pop-up in a new window instead of at the bottom of my site.  Maybe this will help.   If you make a comment and it doesn't appear, please let me know.   Or just forgo all the blog-related-comment-mumbo-jumbo and email me directly!   I like hearing from you.
