The Week's Christmas-Fun Activities

December 6 - St.  Nicholas Day




 A picnic and play time at the park.

 December 8 - Packing peanut snow pictures with the cousins (and some Play-Doh too)

December 9 - Paper-chain-men and hand writing practice and a bowl of nature's treasures and lots of messes!   

This day we also got to have breakfast/lunch with the grandparents at Millie's Pancake Haus and look at all their Christmas decorations.

Watch the amazing soil-disk absorb the water and expand....this big, says Calvin.

December 9-10 - Uncle Ted invited Tyler and the older boys over for Pizza and Christmas-Movies Night.  So after the baby was in bed I got to spend the evening with Christmas music, tea and the sewing machine!  

Being intentional about engaging in fun things with my kids has been so good for me.  (As you know, I'm a task-oriented, list person, so a To Do List For Fun is a good thing.)  I've also discovered that I've really had to let perfectionism go in order to delve into each little project.  I can't put off baking until the whole kitchen is spotless, I can't put a craft on hold until the tables are all clean, I can't wait to go do an activity until all the vacuuming is done.  And, of course, the kids are happier to be doing something together.

Rainbow Layer Cake

We saw this Rainbow Checkerboard Cake video several months ago and Calvin was intrigued.  He ended up adding it to our Summer Fun Ideas List and this week we made it happen.  This was not quite a Pinterest Fail, but if you look at the video you will see how far from the original creation our cake actually was.    One cake mix was divided into pink and yellow.  One cake mix we made into blue and green.     Lots of boys.  Lots of help.  Lots of hand washing.    We cut the center out of each one and rearranged the colors.    And stacked them all together.  If we had waited until the cakes were completely cool, or even par-froze the layers they would have stacked more easily without cracking. I am an inexperienced blogger. I write sporadically. I use a free blogging web-site.  I have not done a tutorial. I have not attended a blogger conference.  And I have had at least three reader's comments "lost" recently.  I am so sorry about that!! I do not know why this is happening.  I have double checked all my setting to allow comments. Even anonymous comments but the problem seems to persist.   Today I have made a small change so that the comments section will pop-up in a new window instead of at the bottom of my site.  Maybe this will help.   If you make a comment and it doesn't appear, please let me know.   Or just forgo all the blog-related-comment-mumbo-jumbo and email me directly!   I like hearing from you.
